Theodor Seuss Geisel was born on March 2, 1904, in Springfield, Massachusetts, and spent his childhood there.

At twenty-two he moved to a studio apartment in New York City, the center of the publishing world. He soon found steady work as a staff writer and artist for Judge—“the world’s wittiest weekly,” as it called itself.
